How To Do A Gender Reveal In Style Pt. 1

Gender reveal parties are certainly a newer trend. Thirty years ago my mother did not have the option of finding out her baby's sex. We decided to have a gender reveal party rather because I love any excuse for throwing a party and we thought it would be a fun way to find out.

Better to find out the sex of your baby surrounded by your closest friends and family than in an ultrasound room with the tech.

We had to tell the ultrasound tech we did not want to find out the sex from the beginning of the exam to avoid her accidentally blabbing (this happened to one of our good friends). So we asked her to write down the sex in a sealed envelope. When it came time to look down at the baby's genitalia she asked us to close our eyes.

We decorated a large box with wrapping paper and some large cut circles we ordered from Le Papier Papillon. We brought that box to party city and had them fill the balloons with the color that denotes the sex written in the envelope. They assured me that they do this all the time so that made me feel less worried about them screwing it up.

When choosing a theme for our party "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, How We Wonder What You Are..." was just perfect. We then set out to find pink and blue decorations and choose the perfect cake. We found a picture of the cake online and had a local bakery recreate it for us. We ordered letter cut outs, pink and blue cotton candy bags with star stickers, star cupcake toppers and gold star vinyl stickers (all found on the same etsy shop). We also used glitter table runners and a mix of white flowers and candles for the table centerpieces. Next we created a DIY photo booth made of pink and blue streamers and a mixture of homemade props using chalk markers.

We also wanted to make sure our guests had fun so we created some events. First we told our guests that they could wear pink or blue for what they guessed the baby's gender was. Then we made a chalkboard for everyone to sign up on Team Girl vs. Team Boy. We also had a jar, with pink and blue post its, where guests could suggest boy and girl names which we read aloud for fun. We also wrote Wives Tales on a chalkboard and had our guests guess my symptoms in order to determine if it was a boy or girl. We let everyone ask my husband ONE question in order to make it more fun. We gave out a prize of Hersheys Bars to the person with the most correct answers.

We also decided to serve a signature "pink drink" and a "blue drink". (Our guests loved the pink drink). There were plenty of pink and blue cups, plates and cutlery for all.

Finally the time came around for us to find out the sex of our baby. We were Dyyyying to know. I had a gut feeling that it was a boy and I really wanted a boy, but the days leading up to the gender reveal I dreamt of having a baby girl. We opened the box together and out came blue balloons. I was so excited that I jumped up and down (5 months pregnant and in heels). My husband was just stunned. I just love the video and pictures of our reactions and I am so happy we went this route. Our friends and family all found out at the same time and shared our joy with us. If I had to do it all over again, I would have done it the same exact way. That was truly one of the best moments of my life.
